There are spots available to be competed for at all positions and we welcome players from within our zone who are graduating from Bantam AAA or whom have played Midget Minor AAA and High School Hockey that are still of midget age. The cost of the full camp is $90 and cheques can be made out to the Dartmouth Major Midget Hockey Club. Numbers are limited and if you are not selected to participate in the camp you will receive a full refund. SUBWAYS MAKE IT TO 10TH CONSECUTIVE NSMMHL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES!!! SEMI FINALS NOW HEAD TO PORT HOOD The Dartmouth Subways are headed to Port Hood with a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. The SUBS and Islanders faced off in back to back games this past weekend. In the first contest the SUBS scored 4 times in the second period to take the game 5-3. The offense was lead by Jonathan Clarke with two goals, Brad MacDonald with three assist. Andrew Sidey earned his 4th win of the post season making 21 saves. In the second contest the SUBS were able to score three times in the third period to take the game 4-3. The SUBS were down by a goal with less then 8 minutes remaining when Ben Duffy scored at 5:53 on the power play and one minute later at 4:53 Andrew Bonazza scored the game winning goal off a rebound. Andrew Sidey turned away 24 shots to earn his 5th win. The SUBS will prepare this week for what should be a very exciting weekend of hockey in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League. Saturday Mar 1 Dartmouth @ CBW at 7pm @ Port Hood Al MacInnis Sports Center SUBS END WILDCATS SEASON The SUBWAYS ended the Valley Wildcats season with a 5-1 victory in game three of the first round of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League winning the series 3-0. The offense was lead by Andrew Bonazza, Michael Roski and Ben Duffy with each collecting 2 points. Andrew Sidey turned away 26 shots to earn his 3rd win of the post season. The SUBS did not disappoint in this series outscoring the Wildcats 22-2. Special teams are a very important part of succeeding in the post season and the SUBS were outstanding in this series, the penalty kill went 9 for 9 while the power play went 6 for 14. The SUBS will now face the Cape Breton West Islanders in leagues semi-finale, this series is a best 4 of 7. The SUBWAYS and the Islanders have a little history of facing each other in the post season as the last 4 years they have either faced each other in the semi-finales or league finales. The SUBS will have 3 practises this week before facing the Islanders this Saturday at the sportsplex. Here is the schedule for this series. Saturday Feb 23 CBW @ Dartmouth at 7pm @ Dartmouth Sportsplex SUBS TAKE A COMMANDING LEAD The SUBS started the first round of playoffs with a bang after a 14-0 victory over the Valley Wildcats in the first game of two this past weekend. The SUBS were relentless offensively and were very strong defensively. The SUBWAYS always elevate their play in the post season and this year’s team certainly has started strong. The offense was led by Brad MacDonald who had 1 goal and 5 assist for a total of six points. Andrew Sidey had a strong performance collecting his first shutout of the post season making 19 saves. In the second contest the SUBS defeated WILDCATS by a score of 3-1. The SUBS played very well and outshot the Valley 45-17. Gerrad Grant led the way offensively with 1 goal and 1 assist while Andrew Sidey once again had a strong performance making 16 saves to earn his second win of the post season.” The team played very well this weekend and paid a strong attention to details. We now will prepare for next Saturday and make sure we bring another strong effort.” Coach Troini. Dartmouth Subways Vs 8 Valley Wildcats Subs Lead 2-0 SUBWAYS END 2007-2008 REGULAR SEASON WITH A COUPLE OF WINS The Subs finished the season with two big wins. The SUBS week started Thursday when the South Shore Mustangs defeated the SUBWAYS 5-4 after rallying for 3 goals in the last 10 minutes of the third. Despite the defeat on Thursday the SUBS rebounded with two big wins versus both Cape Breton teams. Saturday night saw the Cape Breton West Islanders come to the Dartmouth Sportsplex. The SUBS handed the Islanders a 4-3 defeat, in the win Brad MacDonald, Gerrad Grant, Ben Duffy, Chris Dart and kody Orr each had two points while Cameron Poirier earned the win making 35 saves. On Sunday afternoon the SUBWAYS played host to the Cape Breton Tradesmen, The SUBS earned a 5-3 win. The offense was lead by Andrew Bonazza and Gerrad Grant each with 1 goal and 1 assist. Second year Goalie earned the win making 31 saves. With both wins the Dartmouth Subways finished the season in first place of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League with a record of 26-6-2-1 for a total of 55 points. The SUBS now prepare for their first round playoff opponent the Valley Wildcats. The first round is a best 3 of 5 and this series will start this Saturday at the Dartmouth Sportsplex. COME SEE YOUR SUBS DEFEND THEIR LEAGUE TITLE Saturday Feb 9 Valley @ Dartmouth 7:30pm (Sportsplex) SUBWAYS CONTINUE WINNING WAYS The Dartmouth Subways continue winning despite missing some key players. The Subs faced off against league rival Pictou County Weeks on Saturday and showed lots of character in a 5-3 win. Both teams battled hard however the SUBS scored some timely goals and played very strong defensively. Collin Gates lead the offense with 2 goals while Gerrad Grant had 3 assist. Andrew Sidey earned his 13th win of the season.” We had a very good week of practise and it certainly reflected in are play.” Coach Troini. Sunday the SUBWAYS travel across the harbour to meet the Halifax McDonald’s in what was a very interesting game. The SUBS won 8-7 in OVERTIME. The SUBS were able to get the two points despite playing 35 minutes with only 7 forwards and 5 defensemen. Kody Orr, Gerrad Grant, Ben Duffy and Matthew Fortune each had a 3 point night with Fortune getting the OT winner on a loose rebound in the goal crease. Chris Dart and Ryan Morris each had 1 goal and 1 assist. “It’s nice to see we can win with a limited line-up and this shows that our conditioning is were we want it to be.” Coach Troini The SUBS only have 3 games remaining prior to defending their league title. The Subs trailed by 3 goals at one point in the game however were very persistent on the attack and were rewarded for their strong play.”I really just told them to keep working as we were getting lots of chances; I knew it was just a matter of time before we scored some goals.” Coach Troini. Chris Dart lead the way with 2 Goals while Andrew Sidey earned the win making 19 saves. In Sunday’s contest the SUBS faced off against the Halifax McDonald’s and earned a 6-3 win. This contest was a very intense battle as both teams are preparing for playoff hockey. The SUBS were lead by forwards Andrew Roski, Brad MacDonald and Gerrad Grant. Andrew and Brad each had 2 goals & 1 assist while Gerrad had 3 assists. Cameron Poirier earned his 10th win of the season making 29 saves. The Dartmouth Subways are sitting in first place of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League with a record of 22-5-2-1 for total of 47 points. The SUBS have 5 games remaining in the 2007-2008 season, 2 on the road and 3 at home. Wednesday evening the SUBWAYS faced the Miramichi Riverman and came out with a solid 5-2 win. Game two brought on the Markham Majors.....Markham played a very physical game, but the SUBS responded to the challenge with a six goal performance, beating Markham 6-4. The final game of the round robin against North Bay was again a tough match up for the SUBS. The team again stepped up their game and defeated North Bay 6-4. The line of Chris Dart, Brad MacDonald and Andrew Bonazza have led the way offensively with a combined 17 points. Chris Dart sits tied for second in tournament scoring with 7 points after the round robin. Ben Duffy has also been strong offensively with 5 points in three games. On the back-end Jonathan Clarke has been the SUBS most consistent performer, chipping in with a goal and an assist. Finishing 3-0 puts the SUBS in the top half of the teams that advance to the next round. The next game will be played Saturday morning with the opponent yet to be determined. Notes: The SUBS were in attendance to watch the Ottawa Senators defeat the Buffalo Sabres in a shoot-out. SUBWAYS FIND SUCCESS IN THE NEW YEAR The SUBS win their first 3 games of the New Year, despite missing some key players. The SUBS faced off against the Valley Wildcats on January 3rd 2008 and were able to get a 4-1 win with only 7 full time forwards. The offense was lead by 17 Year old forward Gerard Grant with 1 goal and 1 assist. While 15 year Brad MacDonald scored 2 goals and Cameron Poirier earned his 8th win of the season making 11 saves. The Valley Wildcats were once again the visitors on Saturday January 5th 2008 and were again defeated by the SUBWAYS by a score of 3-2 .The SUBWAYS outshot the Wildcats 43-16. The offense was lead by forward Chris Dart with 2 assist and Andrew Roski scored the winning goal while short handed. Andrew Sidey had a 14 save performance earning him his 11th win of the season. In Sunday’s contest the SUBS were host to the South Shore Mustangs. The Mustangs have given the SUBWAYS lots of trouble this year, however the SUBS were able to defeat the Mustangs by a score of 8-1. The SUBWAYS played very well and were relentless in the offensive zone. The offense was lead by the line of Chris Dart, Brad MacDonald and Andrew Bonazza. Dart had 3 assist, MacDonald had 1 goal, 1 assist while Bonazza had a 3 goal performance. 15 year old Goalie Cameron Poirier earned his 9th win of the season. SUBWAYS HEADED TO GATINEAU FOR INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT JAN 8-13 The SUBS are headed to Gatineau QC home of the Gatineau Olympics of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League as they are participating in 43rd Edition of the Gatineau International Kiwanis Tournament. Here is the schedule for the SUBS this week. Gatineau tournament schedule: SUBWAYS END 2007 WITH A WIN The SUBS split the final 2 games prior to the Christmas break. The SUBWAYS lost 4-1 to the Cole Harbour McCain in Saturday nights contest with a very poor effort. Despite the loss the SUBS rebounded with a 6-4 win against the Valley Wildcats. The SUBS were lead by the line of Ryan Morris, and Kody Orr. Kody had 2 goals and 1 assist while Ryan Morris had 1 goal and 1 assist. Cameron Poirier earned his 7th win of the season. The SUBWAYS are now sitting in first place of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League. Next Games The SUBS next home game will take place on January 3rd 2008, 6:30 pm start at the Dartmouth Sportsplex when the Valley Wildcats come to town. Those same Wildcats will face the SUBS again on Saturday January 5th 7:30 pm and on Sunday January 6th 2008 the South Shore Mustangs will be in town for a 1pm contest. SUBWAYS WIN INTENSE BATTLE The SUBS beat cross town rival Cole Harbour McCain 3-1 last Wednesday night in Cole Harbour. This contest was filled with emotion and intensity. Both teams battled hard however the SUBWAYS were able to keep there emotions and composure under control when it mattered the most. Despite Cole Harbour taking the lead at 8:40 of the first period and facing four 5 on 3’s The SUBS got goals from league leading scorer Ben Duffy, Brad MacDonald and Michael Roski. Michael Roski finished the game with 1 goal and 1 assist to lead the way. Andrew Sidey faced 30 shots putting aside 29 of them to earn is 10th win of the season. “Our team really responded well and showed lots of character and discipline. These types of games really bring a team together and I feel that we are a very close and committed team.” Coach Troini. The SUBWAYS are playing some of there best hockey these days despite missing some Key players. The Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League is a very competitive league and this contest certainly did not disappoint. Special Notes 17 year old Dartmouth Subway Gerrad Grant has been called up by the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for there up coming games this weekend at the Metro Centre. The SUBS now will prepare for Cole Harbour once again next Saturday December 22 at 7:30 pm and the Valley Wildcats Sunday at 1pm both games will take place at the Dartmouth Sportsplex. WORLD JUNIORS UPDATES The Dartmouth Subways would like to congratulate former Subway Brad Marchand for once again making this year’s roster. Brad is a very skilled and hard working player that will be counted on heavily in this year’s tournament in the Czech Republic. SUBWAYS CONTINUE RELENTLESS PLAY After a very intense and focused week of practise the Dartmouth Subways were able to win two very big games this weekend. The SUBS started the weekend 1 point back of first place in the very tight Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League when they traveled to Kentville to face off against the WILDCATS. In this contest the SUBS were very dominant in an 8-0 win. The SUBWAYS were relentless in the offensive zone and were rewarded for there strong play. Gerrad Grant had 3 Goals and 2 assists, while Ben Duffy had 1 Goal and 3 assists to lead the offense and Andrew Sidey earned his first shutout of the season and 9th win of the year. In Sunday’s contest the SUBS face one of the most intense and hard working team in the 8 team circuit the South Shore Mustangs. The SUBS walked away with a 6-4 win. The SUBWAYS were leading 5-2 when the Mustangs Scored 2 Power Play goals to make it 5-4. With only 6 minutes remaining newest addition Christian Morin riffled a shot from the blue line to give the SUBS a 6-4 lead and never looked back. The offense was lead by Ben Duffy with 1 Goal and 3 assists, while Chris Dart and Ryan Morris each picked up 1 Goal and 1 assist. Cameron Poirier earned his 6th win of the season. Special Update The Subways have welcomed back Defenseman Christian Morin who was playing with the Halifax Wolverines Junior A. Christian was a big part of last year's successful team. SUBWAYS in First Place After Another Successful Weekend The Dartmouth Subways obtain sole position of First place of the NSMMHL after a very successful weekend defeating both Cape Breton teams. In Saturday’s contest the SUBS came out a little flat but where very effective on the Power Play scoring 3 times and came away with a 5-2 win against the CB West Islanders. Andrew Wigginton scored what was the game winning goal beating goalie Brennan Laite short side at 11:25 in the third period. Andrew Sidey had another strong performance in the SUBS crease. In Sunday’s contest the SUBS faced off against the very competitive Cape Breton Tradesman. The SUBWAYS won the contest 4-2. The team was lead by Brad MacDonald with two goals. Mike Roski scored the game winner with a blast from the blue line. Gerrad Grant with 1 goal and Chris Dart and Ben Duffy with 2 assist each. Cameron Poirier earned the win in goal. The SUBS are starting to play some good hockey in preparation for what is to come after Christmas.” I think are team is really starting to gel and understand what it takes to win in this league on a consistent basis. The Subways move to 1 point behind the Cole Harbour McCain’s for 1st place in the Nova Scotia major Midget Hockey League. PAST AND PRESENT SUBS MAKE TEAM ATLANTIC! The Dartmouth Subway Players, Parents, Staff, and Executive want to congratulate Andrew Roski, Mike Roski, and Ben Duffy for being selected to Team Atlantic Under 17's that will compete in the International Under 17 event being held after Christmas in London, Ontario. Also selected were two former Subways Steven Anthony (St John Sea Dogs, QMJHL) and Tyler Noseworthy (Weeks Crushers Junior A). Well done guys and best wishes from all of us! On another special note, former captain Geoff Hum just returned from the World Junior A Hockey Championships as a representative with Team Canada East. Geoff and his team captured the Silver medal in the event after losing 4-1 to Team Canada West. Congrats Geoff, we are again very proud of you! SUBS REACH SEMIS IN MONCTON The Subways had an excellent tournament in Moncton and played wonderful hockey throughout the event yet fell short after a tough loss to the Fredericton Canadians who went on to win the championship. Both teams were 4-0 going into the semi and Fredericton counted on strong positional play and a smart forecheck to lead the way to a 3-0 win and a chance to move on. The score was actually 1-0 into the dying minutes of the third period when Fredericton scored late and got another into an empty net. Coach Jason Troini had this to say: "Fredericton played well, have a nice team, and deserved the win. We had our chances but weren't as sharp as we had been in some of the other games in the event. Overall, I was very pleased with our team this weekend. We are getting better and are ready to take the next step and elevate our game in league play." The Subways outscored the competition in Moncton 23 to 6 in five games. SUBWAYS CONTINUE STRONG PLAY SUBS continue strong play at The 27th Monctonian AAA Challenge after successful start yesterday against TRI PENN, the SUBS defeated the RIVE SUD EXPRESS from Quebec 4-0. The Express was a very physical and intense team that challenged the blue and gold in every aspect. The team responded well and received a strong performance from the line Brad MacDonald, Chris Dart and Andrew Bonazza. Goalie Andrew Sidey earned the shutout. Every year at the Monctonian the Quebec Major Junior Hockey Leagues central Scouting services organize a prospect game that consist of all 15-16 year old player eligible for the up coming draft in June. The Dartmouth Subways were very well represented with 7 players earning the right to participate. Ben Duffy, Andrew Roski, Brad MacDonald, Chris Dart, Kody Orr, Matthew Fortune and Cameron Poirier. In Saturday Morning contest the SUBWAYS face off against the Miramichi Riverman and the winner would advance to the quarter finals later that night. The SUBS were very prepared for there opponent and were successful earning an 8-3 win. Ben Duffy led the attack with 3 goal and 2 assists. Cameron Poirier earned the win. The Subways now will face the winner of Miramichi or Charlottown in the quarter finals at the 4-plex in Moncton. Stay tuned for more updates. GO SUBS SUBS SOLID IN TOURNY OPENER The Subways faced TRI PENN FROST of Newfoundland in their first game of the Monctonian Tournament and came out with a very solid 4-0 win. The SUBS had a great effort from everyone from start to finish today and really controlled the game through with a dominate forecheck. The line of Brad MacDonald, Andrew Bonazza and Chris Dart lead the offense with Colin Gates and Ben Duffy chipping in a goal each. The SUBS now will prepare themselves for RIVE – SUD from Quebec in an afternoon contest at the 4-PLEX. Check in for more updates. GO SUBS GO Great Week for SUBWAYS The SUBWAYS got 6 out of a possible 6 points this past week. It all started when the Subs played the Cole Harbour McCain Thursday, despite taking a quick 3 goal lead it took Michael Roski’s Overtime goal to dispose of the McCain with less than 2 minutes remaining. The # 10 ranked Island in the world has been very kind to the Dartmouth Subways this year as the Subs have earned 11 out of a possible 12 points. In Sydney at Centre 200 the Blue & Gold played a very good road game and came out with the 7-3 win despite only having 4 defenseman. Cameron Poirier earned the win, Ben Duffy collected 5 points, Gerrad Grant and Kody Orr with 3 each. On Sunday in Port Hood the Subs battled a very physical Islanders team, and responded well with a 3-2 win to improve there record to 10-4-0-2. Jeremy McNaughton scored the winning goal on the power play in the second period and Andrew Sidey earned the win with a strong performance in goal. Upcoming Events The Dartmouth Subways prepare to leave for the Monctonian Tournament which begins Thursday and features teams from the US, Quebec, Ontario and all from the Maritimes. SUBS FIND SUCCESS IN THE CAPE The SUBS returned home from Cape Breton with three out of a possible four points. Game one against Cape Breton West was a tough challenge and the team found themselves down 3-0 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. The boys fought hard and got back within one goal late in the period when coach Troini pulled the goalie for the extra attacker and Jonathan Clarke found the back of the net with just 18 seconds remaining on the clock. Over time solved nothing and sent the game to a shoot-out with Cape Breton scoring on their first shot after a miss by the SUBS to take the game 4-3. “The team showed a lot of character coming back despite being short two regular defencemen and losing another to injury during this game” – Coach Troini Other goals scored by Andrew Bonazza and Ryan Morris. Matt Fortune and John MacDonald picked up to assists each. Game two presented another tough challenge in the Cape Breton Tradesmen, especially with our squad being so short staffed on the back end. The SUBS trailed after two periods, yet again down 3-1 heading into the third. The boys fought hard in the third, scoring 3 unanswered goals including the winner by Kody Orr with 4:59 to go, to take the game 4-3. Chris Dart had a strong performance with 1 Goal and 3 Assists, other goal scorers for the SUBS were Brad MacDonald and Gerrad Grant. SUBS RETURN WITH ENTHUSIASM After a slow start at the Beantown Classic, the Subs found ways to elevate their game, resulting in the most successful trip to New Hampshire in the three years the team has been competing in the tournament. The Subs fell to Team Comcast in the first game by a wide margin, although the final score was not indicative of the comparative skill level of the two teams. In game two the Subways led by Andrew Roski, battled to a very tough 2-1 win against one of the top Under 16 teams out of California, the LA Selects. The third game proved no less challenging with a 6-5 loss to the Texas Attack. The subs finished on a strong goaltending effort by Andrew Sidey with a 1-1 tie against the top team out of Michigan, Victory Honda. All of the players competed very well and generated a great deal of interest from many US Prep Schools and Universities. Away from the rink, the team enjoyed a tour of the University of New Hampshire campus, the team dressing rooms and facilities. Following the tour, the boys were fortunate enough to be guests of Boston University for their Home Opener against UNH. The players were very impressed with the level of hockey and the level of energy in the building for the game. “The intense level of competition and the time together as a team has definitely been a positive for the players and we are very excited to get back home and prepare for what will be two very tough games in Cape Breton this coming week-end” – Coach Troini SUBWAYS AT BEANTOWN FOR USA EXPOSURE AND EXPERIENCE! The Subs boarded the bus early this morning, heading out to the Beantown Classic Tournament in New Hampshire. This tournament showcases teams from across the US and Canada and is heavily scouted by the QMJHL, US College and US Prep. “This tournament provides our players an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and exposure of the hockey options available through US schools” – Coach Troini The team stopped at the University of Maine this afternoon to learn about the hockey program and take a tour of the facility. The Subway players were lucky enough to get a guided tour of the entire facility by the coaching staff of the Blackbears. “What an excellent experience for our players to see the inside of a program so rich in tradition...........It reminds me a lot of the Subway Program only at a higher level” – Andrew Roski, Team Captain The tournament schedule is full of tough competition with the Subways playing two games on Thursday and one on Friday. The Subs will face Team Comcast of Philadelphia before taking on the LA Selects and Texas Attack. All games will be a tough test, but the level of competition will help the team better prepare for the challenges ahead. The Subways will play Comcast of Philadelphia, LA Selects, and Texas Attack in the tournament and hope to play in the playoff rounds on Saturday and Sunday. Subs Redeem Themselves against McCain After a very successful week of practice the Dartmouth Subways came ready to play Wednesday against Cole Harbour. The Subs took the lead early after Collin Gates drove the net hard and put away his first of the year. Cole Harbour were relentless in the first period scoring 3 straight goals to take a 3-1 lead after the first 20 minutes. That’s when the Subs took charge of the game by working hard and committing themselves to the game plan. The Subs came back from a two goal deficit and scored 5 unanswered goals to take the game 6-3. Collin Gates with 2 goals including the winner, led the way for the Subs. Ben Duffy (1G-2A), Gerrad Grant (1G-1A), Brad MacDonald (2A) also put in strong performances. ”Our team paid attention to the details on the defensive side and the offense was relentless. We finally committed to play 60 minutes and we found success.” Coach Troini. The Subways have a couple more games prior to heading to New Hampshire for the Beantown Fall Classic. The team will compete against some of the best Midget teams in the USA and will visit the campus of the University of Maine and University of New Hampshire. This event is highly scouted by numerous programs from Prep to College even the National Hockey League. GO SUBS GO!..... PRIDE! PASSION! PERFORMANCE! Upcoming Games SUBS come up short to cross-town rival McCains It was a disappointing result but turned into a great learning tool for the future. Despite a strong performance from rookie goaltender Cameron Poirier, the Subways were not able to play a full sixty minutes of hard nosed hockey. Coach Troini stated: “Cole Harbour played very well and were more disciplined than us, discipline still seems to hurt us in tight games and until our players understand this we are going to go through some ups and downs. It takes 20 players to win and we cannot rely on a handful of players to lead the way while everybody else sits back and watches. Playing a full sixty minutes is not easy however being a hockey player is not easy. We need to start to work together in order to accomplish team goals.” Both teams will face each other again on Wednesday October 10 at Cole Harbour place at 7:30pm. The Subways will look to redeem themselves and perform with discipline, accountability, and a high effort level. Several Subways will represent Nova Scotia at the Atlantic Challenge in Moncton NB from October 5-8 2007 as the NSMMHL takes a break in action. Good luck to all Subway players and to the NS Teams at the event! SUBWAYS SPLIT ON WEEKEND The Dartmouth Subways are learning everyday that hard work is a must in the NSMMHL. Our team was outworked by the South Shore Mustangs in a 6-2 defeat on Saturday in Bridgewater. The ‘Stangs’ were willing do to the extras in order to win while our squad struggled to get going early and were never able to rebound. In Sunday’s affair in Kentville the SUBWAYS showed great character by rebounding with a 6-2 win over the Valley Wildcats. “The player’s responded well and demonstrated that when we work hard we are very efficient as a team,” said Coach Troini. Rookies Brad MacDonald and Kody Orr scored their first goals of the year while Gerrad Grant and Ben Duffy had two a piece. Andrew Sidey had a strong performance in net. The Subways now prepare for cross-town rival Cole Harbour McCain’s on Saturday at the Dartmouth Sportsplex 7:30pm Start. On the schedule this week is off ice conditioning at TOTAL HOCKEY TRAINING GYM Tuesday, team pictures and practice on Wednesday followed by a nutritional talk, and practice on Thursday followed by video. On Saturday our team, players and staff, coordinates the NS Youth Running Series Race held yearly at Shannon Park. This is part of our commitment to our community and is the third year that we have done this event for over 300 kids. SUBS WIN Two in Cape Breton Despite a tough loss to South Shore on Thursday, the Dartmouth Subways are coming back from the ‘rock’ with 4 points from the Cape Breton squads which has traditionally been tough to do. In Saturday’s affair against the Cape Breton Tradesman the SUBWAYS were able to come from behind and get the win. Trailing 4-2 with 8:28 in the second period Coach Troini called a time-out and gave the players a ‘good wake up call.’ The team regrouped and rebounded well and was able to take the lead in the third and never looked back, winning 8-5. Coach Troini noted, “In that Time-out, all I wanted to say is stick to the game plan and work harder, never be satisfied. The team responded well and I’m very happy with our leadership. Some players took control and the team responded.” In Sunday’s contest the Dartmouth Subways were clicking on all cylinders. The game was the most physical game of the year and the SUBS came through on top at the end of the day by a score of 8-5. The offence was lead by the line of Duffy-Grant-A. Roski, combining for a total of 10 points. ”This was a total team effort and all players played to there potential. Despite several undisciplined penalties our team found a way to win,” said Troini. This was a very positive weekend and the Subways are looking forward to working hard this week to prepare for their next two opponents - South Shore and the Valley Wildcats. Go SUBS! SUBS Learn Valuable Lessons Early In Year The Dartmouth Subways have learned an early lesson after two regular season games. In the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League there is no such thing as a night off. In order to be successful in hockey you must learn to prepare yourself mentally and physically prior to each game. In Saturday's affair against the Weeks the Subs were simply outworked in a 2-0 loss despite a strong performance from Goalie Andrew Sidey. "Skill will only bring you so far, hard work is sometimes a skill that's overlooked. Intensity, desire, and passion are something you need to bring every day not just when convenient. However it's early in the year and we did some good things and the player's now realize what it takes to win in this league," said Coach Troini. Sunday's match against the Macs was a good test for our players. With lots of history between both organizations, this affair was going to be a good battle. Despite a slow start the Subs responded to the challenge set out by Coach Troini to not be outworked by the opposition. Chris Dart got the ball rolling when he drove hard and backhanded the puck into the back of the net. The line of Roski-Duffy-Grant combined for 6 points and a strong performance. All players responded and played with passion and displayed a strong desire to win. Cameron Poirier made some big saves when the team needed it, especially on some key PP chances the Macs had. The Subs won the first meeting of the year between both teams by a score of 4-3. In summary, a team with skill that doesn't work hard is average or below.
